19 countries have indicated that international papers on health inequalities have contributed to introduce health inequalities at the national level. The WHO has played a substantial role in raising awareness and putting health inequalities on the agenda of New Member States.

16 countries mentioned national academic research as a driving force contributing to putting health inequalities on the national level agenda.

12 countries further specified that an official governmental commission of inquiry was set up to address the problem of health inequalities, thereby contributing to putting health inequalities on the agenda.
